TRAILER - THE LAST MAN ON EARTH (1964)
This may be Vincent Price's best acting in film. The loneliness and terror the character goes through took some chops, and Price had them in spades. There have been several films based on Richard Matheson's "I am Legend" and most of them, including LAST MAN, differ considerably. This film can be slow in spots but it is extremely well done and a cool blend of sci-fi and horror.
Alive among the lifeless... alone among the crawling creatures of evil that make the night hideous with their inhuman craving!

TRAILER - THE HITCHER (1986)
I think Rutger Hauer’s best performance is Roy in BLADE RUNNER, but his most terrifying performance comes in THE HITCHER. Roger Ebert’s review of the film said “This movie is diseased and corrupt. I would have admired it more if it had found the courage to acknowledge the real relationship it was portraying between Howell and Rutger, but no: It prefers to disguise itself as a violent thriller, and on that level it is reprehensible." I couldn’t disagree more, it doesn’t disguise itself as a violent thriller, it is a violent thriller. The film lets the audience put together the relationship. This is a really effective exercise in terror in part because of Hauer's ability to act civilized and soft spoken when needed but at the flip of a switch turn into a monster. This film started out even more violent, it was to feature an entire family being slaughtered. I think pairing it down makes it more real and thus more horrific. Writer Eric Reed got the idea for the film from The Door’s Rider on the Storm, only something twisted and evil can come from that. BLADE RUNNER is my favorite Hauer performance, THE HITCHER is my favorite Hauer film.
The terror starts the moment he stops.

TRAILER - SATAN'S SADISTS (1969)
Al Adamson (FIVE BLOODY GRAVES, THE FEMALE BUNCH) is one of my favorite grindhouse directors and this film is probably his best work. Full of all the good old fashion brutality a biker film should have.

A small Arizona town is beset by an army of the most terrifying creatures to ever walk, or should I say hop, across the screen: giant, mutated bunnies. Campy, ridiculous horror film full of unintentional laughs. Where is Elmer Fudd when you need him.

TRAILER - SON OF GODZILLA (1967)
Godzilla fathers what looks to be a monster version of the Pillsbury Doughboy on an island populated by giant mantises and a spider. I imagine the ass whooping the tyke gets when he's been naughty isn't pretty.

The debut film from Anthony G. Sumner is a cool horror anthology that played on VOD last month and it is a pretty solid flick. It has blood by the gallons, the occasional disembowelment, and zombies. Everything a growing boy needs. Really anxious to see what he does next.

TRAILER - THE OUTLAW JOSEY WALES (1976)
Clint Eastwood's most personal western after UNFORGIVEN (1992) still packs a punch, with Clint at his snarling best as a Missouri farmer turned outlaw after Union soldiers murder his family during the Civil War. Wonderful supporting cast includes Chief Dan George, John Vernon and Will Sampson in an inspired performance as Ten Bears. The blood oath meeting between Eastwood and Sampson is a highlight. Clint took over directing chores from Philip Kaufman after the two supposedly had a disagreement over who would take lead actress Sondra Locke out to dinner one night!

The John Williams score gives me chills. The first few notes, despite how many times I have seen the film, fill me with anticipation and instantly transport me back to childhood when SUPERMAN and SUPERMAN II played on an endless loop on HBO. SUPERMAN is a classic film, SUPERMAN II is my favorite just because of the darker story and MOTHER-FUCKING GENERAL ZOD who is one of the greatest villains of all-time. The Richard Donner cut is far superior to the Richard Lester cut, Donner’s is just more fluid. As for the other films…Meh.

TRUE GRIT is a modern masterpiece and a remarkable achievement for the Coen brothers who continue to create some of the most brilliant films I have ever seen. BLOOD SIMPLE, FARGO, RAISING ARIZONA, BIG LEBOWSKI, MILLER'S CROSSING, etc. Any Director would be happy to have even one of those films but the Coen’s own them all. Outside of MILLER'S CROSSING, I think this is the first time they have taken on a particular genre and the result is epic.
More than once I muttered “what the fuck?” This is odd, quirky, and all kinds of dangerous. Never before have I thought about a telekinetic tire. Never before have I thought about a knock-down drag-out fight between Carrie and a goddamn tire … but now … now I want that to happen in the worst way.

We have had this bad boy for a couple of months and it is more than worth the $9.99. The best films on this set are MALIBU EXPRESS and GUNS, unfortunately Sidaris’s best film SEVEN isn’t on here.

TRAILER - THE WAR OF THE WORLDS (1953)
Timeless sci-fi classic still stands as the greatest of all alien invasion movies. Brilliant special effects and slick George Pal production values highlight the famous H.G. Wells story about a Martian attack on the world. Designer Al Nozaki's manta ray like war machines that the martians use to annihilate our planet are some of the coolest looking things ever put on film. For science fiction fans, THE WAR OF THE WORLDS is one of those high re watch films that never gets old.

TRAILER - A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (1984)
Few characters cross over into the icon territory of Freddy Krueger. Wes Craven may have provided the outline, but Robert Englund gave the burned bastard the wit and charisma that made him on one hand terrifying, and the other...likeable. You almost root for Krueger at times. The original ELM STREET is still the best of the bunch.

This is a forgotten Polanski classic that critics were quick to dismiss but it has since gained a large cult following. Though it isn't a CHINATOWN or ROSEMARY'S BABY, it is a very intense and effective psychological horror film.

Great modern day monster mash up features two of slasher films most iconic bad boys. Director Ronny Yu stages some exciting battles in a film that helped relaunch the slasher genre. As of this date, this was Robert Englund's last apperance as Freddy Krueger.

TRAILER - GALAXY OF TERROR aka MINDWARP (AN INFINITY OF TERROR) (1981)
Sleazy Roger Corman produced sci-fi trash stars Edward Albert, Erin (Happy Days) Moran, Sid Haig and Robert Englund as the crew of a spaceship that discover a mind altering pyramid on a remote planet. The crew's "mind trips" offer up some of the most revolting alien encounters in film history. A young James Cameron worked as a second unit director.

TRAILER - THE LAND UNKNOWN (1957)
Above average Universal science fiction thriller about a lost prehistoric world could have been better with more consistent special effects, but still a lot of fun for a rainy day viewing on the couch. Sharp eared fans may notice that the roar of the Tyrannosaurus Rex was reused by Steven Spielberg in both DUEL AND JAWS.

TRAILER - HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD (1980)
Another crap-tastic film from Bruno Mattei who uses the "I will steal this idea" style of filmmaking. This is a bad film. It's not MANOS HANDS OF FATE bad, but it's pretty fucking terrible, which is just the way we like it.
Get ready... It's gonna be one hell of a night...

The spirit of an ancient Native American medicine man is growing in the neck of Susan Strasberg and it's up to fortune tellers Tony Curtis and Michael Ansara to stop it before it grows too powerful.
Absurd yet highly enjoyable horror film based on the bestselling novel by Graham Masterton was a box office success; one of schlock director William Widler's biggest hits. This was his last film as he died in a helicopter accident shortly before its release. The zappity-pow climatic battle is a lot of fun.

TRAILER - SCARS OF DRACULA (1970)
Hammer's final period piece Dracula flick starring Christopher Lee is one of their better efforts, with the Count terrorizing a young couple in his mountaintop lair. Unlike most films in the series, Lee actually gets to belt out some dialogue in this one, the most since 1958's HORROR OF DRACULA . The death scene in this one is a hoot.

There is no way this film should work as good as it does. ROLLERCOASTER is an underrated suspense movie and George Segal rarely kicks this much ass.

There are horror films and then there are HORROR films and this is a goddamn HORROR film. Based on the real life case of Ed Gein who killed two women and made trophies of their heads (in addition to digging up graves for decomposed keepsakes), this film is 12 kinds of fucked up. Gein has inspired films like PSYCHO, TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, but DERANGED is the best film to accurately capture the terror of this case. This film is brutal so buckle up.
Pretty Sally Mae died a very unnatural death! ... But the worst hasn't happened to her yet! DERANGED ... confessions of a necrophile!

TRAILER - HELLRAISER (1987)
Clive Barker made his feature film debut with a twisted ode to S&M, oddballs, and outcasts. Though Barker has come close to reaching this same level of greatness he has still yet to make a film that works as well this does. This has some of the more impressive set pieces from a horror film and a way of slowly building the intensity of the story until the audience is at the breaking point. This is Barker at his best.
Demon to some. Angel to others....It will tear your soul apart.

Great Bruce Brown documentary is a must for motorcyclists and fans of the sport. Well known racers such as Mert Lawwill, Malcolm Smith and Steve McQueen are featured. Just as Brown's THE ENDLESS SUMMER(1966) remains the holy grail of surf documentaries, ON ANY SUNDAY remains the definitive film for motorcycle enthusiasts. The film was nominated for a 1972 Academy Award for Documentary Feature.

TRAILER - THE BOOGEYMAN (1980)
I dig the hell out of films that exploit our most basic childhood fears. What kid wasn't afraid of the dark at some point, who didn't think they heard a bump in the night? BOOGEYMAN puts the fear machine into overdrive and has some classic and inventive kills. I have never been a fan though of the sequels. Hit the lights, its showtime.
The most terrifying nightmare of childhood is about to return!

TRAILER - THE BEAST WITHIN (1982)
Made to capitalize on the success of films like THE HOWLING , AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON and the amazing transformation scenes from those pictures, THE BEAST WITHIN is a largely forgotten 80s film that is worth a look for horror fans. Paul Clemmons plays the son of woman who was savagely raped by some sort of monster and unluckily for poor Paul, he's got his daddy's genes running through his body. Queue up some well done transformation scenes as Paul goes through puberty...in the worst way. One of director Philippe Mora's better efforts.
