REVIEW - Lone Wolf and Cub: Sword of Vengeance - ****
Revenge is a dish best served cold. True. Another way to serve the dish however,is to bring you the dish, slam your face into the plate of revenge, cut your head off with my blade and then walk away slowly with my son tucked safely in his carriage. There are only a few father and son films that have a huge re-watch for me. 3:10 To Yuma, Field of Dreams, Road to Perdition, and the series of films the latter was based on, Lone Wolf and Cub. The first film in that series is Sword of Vengeance. It would later be cut and edited (only 12min of the first film) with the second film in the series (Baby Cart at the River Styx) for American audiences. The true way to enjoy this masterpiece though is to take in each film in its entirety.
Sword of Vengeance is a true origins story. Just like any comic book movie establishes the character before a more action oriented second film, so goes Sword. Except instead of super powers he is a bad ass mother-fucker with a sword and unmatched technique. Blood flows and sprays from decapitations and severed limbs like cuts to a fire hose. Don't miss this Samurai and Grindhouse classic.
See you on forty deuce,
