The release of the week is SLEDGEHAMMER, Intervision Picture Corps first release since their new partnership with Severin Films. Intervision is not only releasing this on DVD but also on VHS through Mondo Video which gives me a John Holmes size geek-boner. VHS is quickly becoming the new vinyl making this ex-video store employee smile ear to fucking ear baby. Since we haven't seen the film we can't talk much about it but we will unload a full review once we get our gloves on it. We have ordered them on both DVD and VHS and will review both formats.

Next up, I SAW THE DEVIL. This film is bananas. This really taps into the root and motives of a revenge tale unlike most films that use that device to propel a story. This is a brutal film with some interesting twists that bring about some conflicting emotions in the viewer. I SAW THE DEVIL has a huge re-watch for me and though it isn't perfect, it's one of the best films I have seen this year.

SOMETHING WILD is one of my favorite films from Jonathan Demme. I love the way Melanie Griffith completely deconstructs Jeff Bridge's world (and world view). This release though is not a home-run from Criterion, it's a base hit at best. A couple of interviews and a trailer is about it. This is one for collectors only.

This is a fascinating film about the beginning and end of a marriage. Not a film to snuggle up to with the husband or wife...unless you hate them and you're on the brink of collapse in which case grab the popcorn! Really incredible film-making here.

Concert DVD's have a high propensity for sucking. This one though sounds like it could be an exception. This is from AC/DC's Black Ice world tour and features some killer tracks, this may be one to pick up.

Also out this week are all four of the ALIEN films on Blu-ray available individually (they were previously available only in the monster ALIEN QUADRILOGY set). I am a huge fan of the first three but the fourth one should have been aborted and tossed in a trash can.
