TRAILER - The Jezebels aka Switchblade Sisters (1975)
If I were asked to list some of the greats that are associated with grindhouse cinema, I would have to include such names as Pam Grier, Roger Corman, Sid Haig, Lucio Fulci, and above all, trash cinema legend: director Jack Hill. Hill, the man responsible for bringing to the screen such classics as Coffy, The Big Doll House, and Foxy Brown, also directed a film that Quentin Tarantino labels as one of his personal favorites and is rightly considered one of greatest grindhouse flicks ever made. I'm referring of course to the film that was originally called The Jezebels but is better known today as Switchblade Sisters.
A wonderfully trashy girl gang movie, Switchblade Sisters offers up the ultimate grindhouse experience, showering the viewer with all of the elements that make up the perfect exploitation flick. Sex, violence, loud action, cheap production values, the film has it all. One can see the kind of influence it had on such directors as Tarantino with its tough girl attitude and dialogue. The lead actresses seem to only know one language in the film: snarl. Hill himself has labeled the film a piece of trash. He’s right, and we thank him all the more for it.
